Welcome We are delighted that you are considering a stay in our gite in the pretty village of Arcais—a perfect base to explore the Marais Poitevan des Deux-Sevres region of France. The whole area is covered in a myriad of canals which characterize the area. Hire a boat and explore them at leisure, or hire a bicycle and explore the region along the several hundred kilometers of Way-marked Paths which lead to the 16 communes of the Marais Poitevin des Deux-Sevres. The area is also popular with anglers and ornithologists. |

What to see!
The beautiful old port of La Rochelle is about 45 minutes drive away, along with the sweeping beaches of the Atlantic coast. Go straight on at La Rochelle (yes you can!) and you are on the Ile de Re — a very popular and picturesque island. The nearest city is Niort, well worth a visit, especially for the Saturday market. North to Poitiers and you can visit the Futurscope theme park, or you can simply tour the beautiful countryside with its old towns and villages and enjoy long leisurely lunches at one of the many restaurants you will find on your way. |
